Harvey Scholar Travels - Amanda in Australia

This past summer I had the privilege of traveling to Australia for the month of July. I went with a program called Pacific Discovery that takes young adults on trip around the world. We started in Sydney and traveled up the east coast in a bus that we named Bezza. We ended our trip in Cairns. On several of the bus rides from one town to another I passed the time by writing raps about our trip.

Blue Mts 🚌 Crescent Head
We flew over the sea, touched down in Sydney
Stayed in a hostel, don't lose the room key

We strolled round the city and saw some cool sights
What a dope group, so far no fights

Hopped on the bus, bezza is it's name
to the blue mountains where *abseiling was the game

No we're off to surf camp, ready to shred
Follow the rules, no strangers in your bed

We got David and the *yanks, the *Tim Tam slammers
We all signed a contract so best mind your manners

Only day 5 and many stories to be told
Can't wait for the rest of our adventure to unfold

*abseiling: the sport of rappelling through canyons

*yanks: slang term for Americans

*Tim Tam: famous Australian candy

Crescent Head 🚌 Byron Bay
Back in Bezza and heading up the coast
Had a quick breakfast just some peanut butta toast

Such a dope week back in Crescent Head
We surfed and gnar & made sure *Lantana were dead

Made some friends like Tony and Chris
Some good looking lads that we will surely miss

Don't forget Josh, Kat, or Jesse
Shout out to that *morning tea, what a blessing

How bout that karaoke night? I'd say that we put up a fight
Killed the competition but the judges didn't judge right

Byron is the next stop, gonna hit the town until we drop
Started from the bottom now we're headed to the Aussie top

*Lantana: an invasive species that we removed while volunteering for a national park

*morning tea: a tradition of a late morning tea and snack break

Byron Bay 🚌 Noosa 🚌 Fraser
First we hit the club in Byron bay
Didn't need any drinks to dance the night away

Heard some reggae then a DJ then we walked on back
Feels great in the morning when a hangover you lack

Dove with turtles, saw the lighthouse, and we popped some tags
Don't need that paper or plastic cuz we got our *reusable bags

Traveled further up the coast with a pit stop at the zoo
Saw a koala getting surgery and I fed a kangaroo

Then we got back on the road until we finally got to Noosa
Swimming naked in the ocean made us feel a little loosa

Next thing we knew we were sitting on a ferry
To an island known as Fraser but it's natives call it K'gari

Our tour guide Clint told us story after story
He protected us from dingos cuz they get a little gory

From the dunes to the lakes to the champagne pools
All the memories from K'gari will be treasured like they're jewels

Now we back on the mainland cuz we have to keep on going
Feel so happy in the moment think my heart might just be growing

*reusable: one emphasis of the trip using less plastic and being aware of our waste production

Myella 🚌 Airlie 🚌 Magnetic

Moo went the cow when we got to the farm
Animals so noisy didn't need an alarm

Who knew that a farm stay could be so amazing
We got to milk cow and met the calf that they're raising

Some rode horses while some rode dirt bikes
Smile for Instagram pics, gonna get so many darn likes

Next on our agenda was a place called Whitsundays
2 whales swam right SO close to us you could say it was a fun day

Now we're on an island that they call magnetic
Hiking to the bays got us feeling athletic

To our leaders Jess and Susy were blessed to have them guide us
To the beauty of this land they took away our blindness

Thanks to all of you for this life changing vacation
That I love this crazy life has been a recent realization
